Reunited And It Feels So Good

January 6, 2010

Baltimore City recently changed our trash and recycling collection schedule.  One of the largest changes is the requirement that all trash cans have lids.  Otherwise, you can be fined!

It’s part of a campaign to reduce the rat population

*I just spent a half hour looking for a picture of these really cute public service billboards that Baltimore has installed on the sides of garbage trucks.  It would be a great visual, but it does not seem to exist on the internet.  And I’m not about to motivate at o-dark:thirty to take a picture for you.  Sorry.

Anyway.  You can imagine my consternation when my trash can lid went missing.  My happy trash can:  ripped asunder by 50 mph gusts!

Have you seen me?

I had hoped that the lid might be returned.  It was clearly marked with my address.

Days passed.  No luck.

Then today, Cecilia and I were walking the alley when I spied a round item.  My lid!  Dented, tire-tracked and a block away, but clearly mine.

Welcome home Friend.

All is right in my little corner of Baltimore today.

LOL! Great post today. They did a spot on our news the other night about this really bad pothole they finally had fixed. The traffic guy went out and held up everyones hubcaps that had fallen off one by one hoping to reunite them with their owners. I thought that was hilarious! You should be happy to get your lid back. Bet you can’t just buy a lid without buying another $50 trash can! 🙂

That gave me a good belly laugh when I realized that the title of the post related to a garbage can lid.

After chasing more than my share of trash can lids through the neighborhood, I was so happy when the hubby sprung (sprang?) for a big can with the lid attached and wheels, too!

That’s pretty amazing you found it. Good for you. Better than being fined or having to buy another can. Where I live, the city gives you your trash, recycle and green waste cans and they all have lids that are attached and flip open. It’s a rather nice deal.

We have the same thing here in my town as BigGirl has-the same cans with wheels and lids that flip open. Good job out of Cecilia for finding that lid for you…

Good thing you found the lid! I was guessing that someone stole it since the city is requiring you to have one now. 🙂

    Dearest Juice,
Once when you were small you asked if God helps with anything and everything you ask of Him. At the time, we had conversations that revolved around metaphors and parables to explain the abstract concepts to your imaginative six year old mind. I thought we were quite clever to so sucessfully converse this way. In light of this story and realizing that our lives are programed for Eternity, aparently He is still teaching us and we are barely six years old according to His calendar. 🙂 Love you
