Easter Amidst Cherry Blossoms And Guess What? No Homicide!

April 7, 2010

On Easter Sunday Neighbor L (from the knee incident) and I drove to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival.  I think we just missed peak blooming, but it was still a beautiful day.

Neighbor L declined to have any photos taken of her.

We walked all the way around the Tidal Basin before we finally decided the crowds were too much.

Driving out of DC we saw several of these trees with vivid fuschia / purplish blossoms.  One is pictured below.  Can anyone tell me the name of this tree?  It was pretty striking.

You'll have to excuse this pic - it was taken from the car as we were driving.

Also, I’m sure you all have been waiting with bated breath for the outcome of the knee incident.  We got the call back from Baltimore City PD:  the knee is not human.  BCPD did not elaborate as to what type of animal it was.

I guess we’ll never know.

oh good! you did make it in for the blossoms. we spoke of this briefly and then did not revisit the idea. frankly, i had heard so many horror stories in the days leading up to easter – about beautiful days at the tidal basin completely obliterated by the brain crushing traffic back to northern virginia – i knew i’d never subject my mama to that kind of horror! LOL xo

Sparkles, it was so pretty that I’m thinking about taking a day off for it next year (hopefully fewer crowds on a week-day!).

D.C. can be so beautiful…if only the crowds would stay away!

Very pretty! We have lots of flowering trees near my office–it’s in a business/residential area, so some nice parks and the like–and I love how it looks in the springtime. (Although it’s definitely not of the architectural caliber of DC! Wow!)

Oh, and glad the knee wasn’t human. Whew!

I loved the cherry blossoms when we lived there. However, my husband suffers from allergies so badly, we could only drive through to look at them. With the windows all the way up and the a/c on. Poor guy.

    Loved your pictures!

Glad to know the kneee didn’t belong to a human.

It was probably a dinosaur knee and they don’t want you to get the glory. Selfish.

    Whew! Glad about the non-homicide.

LOVE the cherry blossoms. And you look gorgeous in that picture.

My guess about the purple blossom tree? In Texas I would guess redbud. In Southern California I would guess Jacaranda.
