Hike Number 1 – Soldiers Delight

January 21, 2011

Saturday Chloe and I did our first hike of 2011.  We joined the Baltimore Hiking Club for a six mile jaunt through Soldiers Delight.

Our hike took us past an old chromium mine.

Some brave souls ventured into the mouth of the mine.  Chloe and I stayed safely on the outskirts!

Lots good smells for dogses

Everyone on the hike was surprised at Chloe’s stamina.  Quite honestly I was too!  I was worried that the snow might bother her paws, especially because she’s done the limping thing in the snow here in the city.  I brought booties just in case, but she didn’t need them at all.  I had a sling to carry her as well, but the only time she slowed down and stopped pulling on the leash was the very last quarter mile back to the car.

No time for pictures Mama, let's hike!

Guess who slept like a champ the rest of the weekend?

Actually, both of us.

You’re a good Mama! I’m about to duck out early and get a little exercise myself!

So how did the hike name “soldier’s delight” come about? Any history there???

WOW! Me and Mr. Monk are totally impressed with Chloe’s six miles!

Zoe could totally do six miles! Phoebe, not so much. It’s interesting having two dogs of totally different dispositions. 🙂

Looks like a wonderful hike. Except for the snow part.
