A Smoky Weekend With Forrest

February 23, 2011

Forrest came back to visit this weekend.  On Saturday we decided to do an AVA walk honoring Black History Month.  It was an 11K course and Forrest ran the entire time!

Run Forrest Run!

Chloe and I chose the more prudent (for us at least) course: walking.  The event took us through a historic settlement near an old ironworks, then through a huge new subdivision.

One thing that we did not anticipate was the wind and the brush fires that swept Maryland Saturday.  Parts of the course were really smoky, almost like we were walking in fog.  Forrest and I were covered with tiny ash particles by the end of the walk.  It was a little scary!

That's not a cloud - it's smoke!

Here’s a picture of all of us in the subdivision that never-ended.  The wrong turn we took didn’t help either!

More smoke behind us

Once we got home and washed the ash off we did next to nothing for the rest of the night.  And I think that suited all of us just fine.

Doing nothing sounds divine! He ran 11k – that’s really good stuff.

once the building across the street from us caught fire – our whole house was covered in ash — even on the inside! it was crazy!
