Haarlem

November 3, 2011

Let’s go back to the Netherlands for a minute, shall we?

I think my favorite experience was when we traveled to Haarlem for a day trip.  Haarlem is a suburb of Amsterdam, a quick 15 minute train ride away.

We didn’t let the rain slow us down.

I had just finished reading The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, so I was SUPER excited when we saw the Ten Boom Museum as we walked towards the town square.

I insisted we take the tour.

This is me in the secret room hidden in the Ten Boom house.  It’s a really amazing story.  If you haven’t read it, you should.  Or at least watch the movie.

We decided to walk (in the rain) to see the windmill.  On the way back to the town center we accidently passed through the red light district.  Does every town in the Netherlands have one?

Haarlem also boasts some of the best shopping in the Netherlands.  And Mozart played music in the Grote Kerk.  Definitely a worthwhile daytrip!

Oh! A new book for my Kindle list. I love looking through your pictures. Makes me wish I was there, too!

Wow, that’s cool that they made a museum out of the actual house that they hid in. Thanks for sharing more travel pictures!

I just loved that book. I read it when I was a kid. Isn’t it neat to go to important historical places you’ve read about? What a great trip you had.
