My Birthday Cruise

December 11, 2011

This post is a little out of order, but I was waiting for someone (ahem!) to send me certain pictures.  Said pictures never materialized and I got tired of waiting, so here goes:

So it wasn’t enough to have a birthday tailgate and a birthday gig and a birthday trip to Europe.  Turning 40 deserves a cruise as well!

To be honest, the original birthday plans did not include a cruise.  But when your college roommate calls and says “Hey!  We turn 40 this year. We really should do something to celebrate” you just go with it.

Meet Sandra Dee.

Doesn’t she look cute and innocent?

Don’t let that cute exterior fool you.  This is the same girl who suggested we tip over port-a-pots in college.  And conduct Krispy Kreme runs at 2am.

We tend to egg each other on when we get together.  I think Sandra Dee’s husband was a little worried about that.  No need to worry Mr. Engineer.  We survived.  No one fell overboard.  We took advantage of the beverage package but not in a way that embarrassed anyone.

Sandra Dee and I are both pretty social kind of girls.  To that end we requested a big table at dinner.  We wanted to meet lots of new friends.  Unfortunately, that was a big FAIL.  Of the four couples at our table, one transferred to a different seating and one pretty much kept to themselves.  The last couple was two women also celebrating 40!  We were so excited to meet them on the second night (they were too drunk to even make dinner the first  night).  But then they never showed up again.  I’m not sure if this was a totally liquid cruise for them, or if they were just intimidated by our fabulousness.

In the end it didn’t matter.  We met wonderful people, danced, sunned, played, laughed and generally had a blast.  In fact, it was just like college.  Except we weren’t stressed about grades or money.  So I guess that makes it better than college!

This looks like such a wonderful time! What a great way to celebrate! And I agree with the poster above – the other women at your table were intimidated with your fabulousness!
