A Visit To Shepherdstown – Guest Post By My Pop
Poppi has come up to help with my move to Sacramento. But we won’t let the logistics of a huge cross country move keep us from having fun. The other day we decided to see Shepherdstown, WV. I’ll let Poppi guest post this one…Oh the pressure to be concise and not wordy, spell perfect and not dangle any whatevers… Poppi
The library is a predominant building on the main drag of Shepherdstown, WV. It’s a quaint little river town on the Potomac that is popular with the bikers on the C&O canal trail.
It was rather cool with the sun behind the clouds and this place did have sustenance, so naturally we stopped our rambling for a cup of joe and something nourishing.
After coffee and warmth we continued up the street stopping at the independent book store (Four Seasons Books) which had some wonderful titles and a proprietor who knew her novels. She and Juice hit it off, comparing recent reads and future lists. I stayed silent being a Kindle Fire sort of reader and not wanting to be shunned out of the store.
Next stop was an obligatory stop for me at the local fly fishing shop, Kelly’s White Fly Shoppe, which had an excellent assortment of reasonably priced fly rods, reels, and flies. Living in Florida where there are NO trout streams, I get to fish less often than I would like, and I fish in my mind through visits to places like this. Come to think of it, I caught a lot of nice native brookies while in the shop… Dream on.
We did stops in the bike and kayak store as we walked back down the street past our parked car and off on a side street to visit the general store. The sun appeared and things warmed up just a bit so our visit to this store with its locally built (1870) wood stove chugging away made being inside a little close. We escaped to a back room and sat in some quaint rocking chairs without falling asleep!
Then it was down to the river to see the view and engage in general tomfoolery.
A good day in Shepherdstown.
