A Weekend With Forrest Gump

September 19, 2010

I had a new foster kid this weekend.  Forrest is 16, which is a little older than I usually do, but his foster mom assured me that I had no cause for concern.  Turns out she was right.  I’m calling him Forrest because he embodied all that was good and wonderful about that character.   Not to mention the fact that he spoke with an eerily similar cadence and rhythm.  This kid was up for anything, willing to help out wherever he could and did not have a sarcastic bone in his body.

Forrest Quotes:

Upon seeing that I was about to throw out some venison scraps:

You know, if that is a lean protein it would be good for your dog to have.  Because lean protein is good for dogs.

On a popular turn of phrase:

It’s like grabbing two birds with one… Well, I don’t like to say killing birds because I don’t like to kill birds.

When I suggested a quiet hour:

It is good to read, because reading expands your mind.

Upon seeing my freezer:

When I come back, I can help you get this organized.

And my favorite:

Chloe is an adorable dog.

Forrest enjoys basketball. Fortunately for us, there are basketball courts right next to the dog park.

Waiting in the car with Chloe while I pump gas.

"You know, I think this dog is adorable."

The feeling is mutual, Forrest.

I think you should request him again… what positive energy to have in the house! If he like’s Chloe-in-the-Dark, then I like him. 🙂

Wow, what a nice kid. I’m glad you got to spend time with each other. Looks like Chloe will be good at helping you foster, too.
